5 Problems Invisalign Can Correct

Invisalign corrects Lawrenceville orthodontistsInvisalign can correct nearly every misalignment problem that conventional metal braces can correct, and this makes plenty of potential orthodontic patients very happy. You can enjoy the discreet nature of Invisalign with all the benefits of conventional orthodontics, whether teen or adult. When you visit your Lawrenceville orthodontist, they will let you know whether you’re a good candidate for Invisalign and how long your treatment will last.

1. Gapped Teeth

Sometimes orthodontics are worn to correct cosmetic issue, other times they’re worn to fix misalignment. Many people are unhappy to have teeth that are spaced too far apart – their upper front teeth have an overgrowth of tissue between them or they have small teeth that naturally create gaps.

Gapped teeth are typically an aesthetic issue, but they are certainly eligible for correction. Thanks to Invisalign, the right amount of pressure is gently and consistently applied to the teeth to move them together and close any unwanted gaps.

2. Overcrowding

There are people who have small mouths that don’t seem to have enough room for all their teeth to fit properly into a straight, flawless smile. When this kind of misalignment occurs, a person can suffer from overlapping teeth and teeth that are crooked or twisted.

Overcrowding is a problem not only cosmetically, but also for your oral health. Teeth that are jammed together are in greater danger of tooth decay because it’s harder to clean between them and do so thoroughly. Invisalign, however, uses its magic to shift teeth into the spaces where they’re supposed to be, beautifying your smile and making it healthier. Before you know it, you will see a difference.

3. Open Bite

When the top and bottom teeth don’t touch at all, it’s known as an open bite. This affects appearance dramatically and can also contribute to speech impairments, chewing problems, and even TMJ problems. Invisalign typically takes about a year to complete but an open bite may take up to 24 months to correct.

4. Overbite

An overdeveloped upper jaw – or, alternatively, an underdeveloped lower jaw – is known as an overbite. The front teeth stick out more prominently than they should, which can make a person feel self-conscious about their teeth and smile, and leads to oral health problems like enamel erosion, gum issues, and more.

5. Underbite

When the lower jaw is overdeveloped or the upper jaw is underdeveloped, an underbite occurs. The lower teeth stick out beyond the upper teeth, a problem that is uncomfortable and can also be embarrassing for the person living with this alignment. Painful jaw problems and enamel erosion are two common side effects of an untreated underbite. Invisalign can correct this problem with a carefully structured plan of aligner wear over a year or more.
